Summary:
Perform and direct patient care in the clinic to include, but not be limited to, drug administration, assess vital functions, assisting physician, be able to care for patients of all ages and patient instruction/education on treatment.
DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
1.
Responsible for preparing each patient for clinical examination by recording patient complaints, and vital signs, (i.
e.
weight, blood pressure, temperature height, pulse rate, past medical history, allergies, present condition--prior to physician visitation, review all patient lab work, consultation letters, EKG's, x- rays, etc.
, log all appropriately and prepare for filing in charts for physician review).
2.
Responsible for performing laboratory procedures for patients as per the physician's orders, (i.
e.
glucose, urine analysis, collection of blood, would cultures, throat cultures, etc.
, preparing various lab specimens for transport to lab, fill out appropriate lob forms, log in-house lab test performed as well as outside lab test performed).
3.
Responsible for performing x-rays.
4.
Responsible for receiving verbal and written information pertaining to a patient from the hospital and the physician, (i.
e.
notifying patients of lab work results and/or any new orders from the physician).
5.
Responsible for assisting the doctor in various exams, (i.
e.
assist in Office Surgery, GYN/PAP exams, conduct Eye Chart tests, assist Home Visits when required, application of Hot and Cold Pack Therapy as per the physician's orders).
6.
Responsible for assisting physician in providing prescriptions for patients as per physician's orders.
7.
Responsible for notifying hospital of direct admissions upon physician's orders, (i.
e.
call hospital, nursing home, home health agencies with orders for patients as per physician's instructions).
Responsible for setting up appointments for various tests (i.
e.
mammograms, CT scans, ultrasound, setting up referral appointments with various physicians and responsible for patient education).
8.
Responsible for sterilization of instruments and equipment.
Maintain lab and office under OSHA regulations.
9.
Responsible for ordering all medical supplies, (i.
e.
stocking patient rooms with supplies, maintaining sample medications as required from various pharmacy companies).
Responsible for drug inventory and maintaining proper records.
10.
Responsible for backing up receptionist, (i.
e.
answering phone, setting up appointments, filing information in patient charts, referring calls from patients to physician as necessary).
11.
Responsible for scheduling referrals to various hospitals and other physicians, and scheduling appointments for various tests (mammograms, CT scans, Ultrasound, etc.
) as per physician order.
12.
Responsible for performing any other duties as required or assigned.
DEMANDS AND REQUIREMENTS:
1.
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing or four year program with a degree in nursing or appropriate certificate for hired position (MA, CMA, RT, LPN, RN).
2.
Minimum of one year experience in a medical practice office setting.
3.
Must have proficient knowledge of intravenous drug therapy.
4.
Must have excellent assessment and observation skills.
5.
Occupational exposure to radiation.
6.
Current licensure in the applicable state of clinical practice.
7.
BCLS certification.
8.
Maintains CEU's required for licensure.
PHYSICAL:
1.
Able to pass clinic physical.
2.
Able to participate successfully in random drug screening program.
3.
Able to handle patients of all ages.
Physical guidelines include but are not limited to:
ability to stand/walk for up to eight hours/day, bend, stoop, twist, assist patients in turning, assist patient in arising from exam table, push wheelchair patients, and assist patient in arising from and returning to wheelchair.
